I Need Your Help.

Posted Friday, December 18, 2009

Dear Friends,

Our first deadline is fast approaching and I need your help in a couple of ways. The Clark for State House Campaign has experienced an exciting and busy start. We are blessed with an incredible team already coming together so early in the campaign. We’ve been to numerous events throughout District 98. I have been very busy with one on one meetings, meet and greets, working the phones and raising money.

As I listen to the people’s concerns and frustrations with a government that is out of touch and out of hand I am more determined than ever, with God’s help, to light a candle and make difference in what is often described as the dark corner of politics. I promise not only to vote conservatively but also to be a strong voice for less government, fiscal responsibility, honesty and transparency in government.

We can’t accomplish any of this without your help. That’s why I need to ask you to do 2 things for us right now, please.

1) Contribute just $5, $10 or more. We need to raise another $5,000 in the next 2 weeks before our 1st campaign contribution disclosure on Dec 31st. I know the holidays are upon us and finances are tight, but you can be sure that your contribution will be a sound investment in our state.

Please don’t hold off giving because you feel you don’t have much to give. Even $5, $10 or $25 makes a huge difference by helping us purchase yard signs, campaign materials and mailings. Yesterday I was talking with a teacher who offered to contribute and it struck me when he said, “Josh, things are tight but anyone can make at least a $10 sacrifice for their country by skipping a meal out or a couple lattes”. I realize that even $10 really is a real sacrifice for many people but it will make a huge difference in this election. Click here to contribute.

We are committed to raising money from everyday folks rather than big special interests. My promise is to represent you, not special interests. I shall always be grateful to you for standing with us and giving me a chance to serve you and make a difference for our district and state. Click here to contribute.

Will you consider making your contribution a monthly gift through the Republican Primary on July 20th? Do you realize that even a $10 monthly gift adds up to $80!

Please don’t wait. Make your best contribution TODAY. Click here or make your check payable to Clark for State House and mail it to PO Box 303, Buford, GA 30515

2) Get your friends connected to our campaign.

  • You can join the Campaign email list by clicking here.
  • Please invite your Facebook friends to become “fans” of Josh’s campaign. Click here and click on the “suggest to friends” link on the left hand side of the page.
  • You can also follow Josh on Twitter by clicking here. Please invite everyone, but especially your friends who live in Suwanee, Buford, and Sugar Hill.

Thank you so much for doing your part to help us make a difference in the direction of our state. I’m sure you agree that rather than complaining about the direction our country is headed we must do something about it. I wish fundraising wasn’t such a big part of campaigning but unfortunately it is. Your contribution will help us win this election and be a strong conservative voice for you. With God’s help and a great accountability team we’re putting in place I won’t let you down. I will fight for less government, fiscal responsibility and integrity in how we conduct ourselves while serving you.

Time is of the essence with December 31st right around the corner. Please help us close 2009 strong and meet our fundraising goals by making your best generous online contribution right away. Click here.

I know I am asking a lot… but a lot is at stake, our future and the future of our children depend on all of us.

Thank you & Merry Christmas!

Josh Clark

P.S. Please take a moment right now and click here to make your contribution so that we can finish the year strong!

Announcing the arrival of our son Levi!

Posted

The Lord has blessed us with another child! Our latest bundle of joy, Levi Hunt Clark, brings our current family total to two boys and two girls. Chelsey wasn’t due until the 22nd of this month, but our pray was for an early arrival before Christmas. The odds were against our request, since Chelsey had previously always been at least a week late. What a blessing and answer to prayer was the onset of the early arrival! Levi was born December 15th at 9:13 am (7 lbs. 11 oz.; 20.5 inches) sharing the birthdays of my brother Caleb and Chelsey’s brother Isaiah. Of course, this wasn’t surprising since we both come from such large families. Now we have a good excuse to avoid finding birthday gifts for our brothers! Just kidding guys!

A big thanks to both of our mothers, and sister Emma, for being at the delivery and a great support through a long all-nighter. We arrived at the hospital at about 6:30 pm Monday night with Chelsey about 5 cm; Levi wasn’t born until the next morning. Chelsey again made it through an all-natural birth – she’s amazing! Both are doing well and came home this morning. Stephen, Moriah and Brianna were SO excited about bringing mom and their new baby brother home!

I have a cute story to share with you. When we told the kids we were expecting earlier this year they were, of course, all excited! Stephen was hoping for a brother since he has been begging for a brother for a couple years (as if we can just snap our fingers and give him a brother)! My princess daughter Moriah insisted on having another girl. I said, “But don’t you want Stephen to have a brother.” She just couldn’t understand why Stephen wanted a brother since she already had a brother. She looked at me and said, “Daddy, nobody needs another brother!” Stephen promptly got his feelings hurt, and so, I explained that God knows best; we would just need to wait and see. Everyone is now happy. Moriah is especially thrilled about having a new baby to mother, since Brianna is starting to resist her bossy mothering!

There are pictures on our campaign site www.votejoshclark.com and a bunch on Facebook.

Merry Christmas!

State House Candidate Josh Clark (District 98) Signs Americans For Prosperity No Climate Tax Pledge

BUFORD – Today Republican State House Candidate Josh Clark (District 98) signed the “No Climate Tax Pledge” sponsored by Americans For Prosperity (see attached press release from AFP). “As a small business owner I’m sensitive to any attempt to place additional burdens on our already burdened small businesses” Clark said. “Even now United Nations Bureaucrats are meeting in Copenhagen hoping to place new requirements on Americans, in spite of leaked emails showing deliberate attempts to manipulate climate change data” he added. Josh Clark believes that healthy small businesses are what will turn our economy around and bad laws like the Cap and Trade legislation being considered by the Congress hurt all businesses, especially small businesses.

Josh Clark, his wife Chelsey, and their four children reside in Buford, Georgia, where he runs two local small businesses and is actively involved in the community. He currently serves on the executive board for the Berea School of Ministry, coaches his son’s baseball team and recently served on the 7th District Committee of the Republican Party of Georgia. They attend the Sugar Hill Church, FBC. For more information visit www.VoteJoshClark.com

Americans for Prosperity Applauds Georgia State House Candidate Josh Clark
-Signs No Climate Tax Pledge-

ATLANTA-The Georgia chapter of the grassroots free-market organization Americans for Prosperity (AFP-GA) today applauded State House candidate Josh Clark (98th District) for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.” Clark joins over 300 lawmakers on the federal, state and local levels pledging to “oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in federal revenue.”

“The one thing elected officials should all be able to agree on is that global warming shouldn’t be used as an excuse to hike taxes on citizens and businesses,” said AFP-GA State Director Virginia Galloway. “We encourage all of Georgia’s elected officials and candidates for elected office to sign the pledge.”

Seventeen Georgians have signed, including: U.S. Reps. Lynn Westmoreland, Tom Price, Paul Broun, and Phil Gingrey; and gubernatorial candidates John Oxendine and Eric Johnson.

Cap-and-trade took its first step toward enactment when the U.S. House narrowly passed the Waxman-Markey energy tax bill, which escaped the lower chamber by a scant seven votes despite significant bipartisan opposition. Senators Boxer (D-Calif.) and Kerry (D-Mass.) have begun committee hearings on companion legislation in the Senate. However, key Democratic senators have expressed opposition to attempting to pass cap-and-trade.

President Obama has made no secret of his support for the bill, which would be the largest tax increase in American history. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has scored the House plan as an $846 billion increase in federal revenue, a burden that will be borne by taxpayers and consumers for decades to come.

“Using the guise of climate change to transfer dollars from hard-working citizens to bureaucratic big government is unacceptable,” said Galloway. “Regardless of their stance on global warming, this should be common ground for all of our elected officials at all levels of government.”

“As a small government conservative, I consider it an honor to sign my campaign on to this initiative,” said Caldwell.

Do we have a right to hold public officials responsible in their personal and public life?

Posted Friday, December 11, 2009

As of recent it seems a day doesn’t go by without hearing about another public official or celebrity involved in a scandal. In just the past two weeks the news has centered on Tiger Woods’ infidelity and as of late some of the leadership at the GA State Capitol.

One of the questions people seem to keep asking is – Should celebrities and public officials be held to a high personal standard? Tiger Woods, in his semi apology said, “Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn’t have to mean public confessions”. I beg to differ. Tiger Woods makes a lot of his money not only from his golf but also from corporate sponsorships because of his intense fan base that follows his every move. Naturally with great notoriety comes great personal responsibility. It seems that celebrities appreciate a fervent following when it means big bucks, but when it comes to taking personal responsibility publically for their actions they often cry for privacy.

I agree with the call for privacy when it involves members of a public figure’s family. However, public figures themselves must accept the personal scrutiny or get out of the public arena and shed the influence that comes with your following or in the case of a celebrity the compensation. Just as a basketball player expects the referee to blow the whistle if he fouls; in the same way a public figure should expect the media to ink their pen when scandals break. Yes, the media’s coverage is far lopsided. And sadly, in these times people seem to dwell on negative juicy stories with the media seeming to only report on scandals rather than spending equal time showcasing positive stories. Even worse, often the “rest of the story” doesn’t come to light, just the juiciest details that lead to better ratings.

Rather than crying and running from the responsibility that comes with being a public figure they should embrace this responsibility and appreciate the extra accountability. Being a public figure provides a great platform for influencing society for the greater good. We should expect more from our leaders and we must. For the most part throughout our country’s history we have expected character, self control and decency from those who seek roles of influence. Why should that change? Yes people are human and make mistakes, but that doesn’t mean we lower the bar or expect less. If we expect nothing, we’ll settle for anything.

So what can a leader or anyone for that matter do to maintain character?

1) Walk in character. First they must have a desire to walk in character regardless of the personal cost. Character has often been described as what someone does when no one is looking.

2) Realize our fallibility. As soon as a person says I’m above doing such and such or above a temptation – look out! The first step to avoiding a trap is to be aware it’s there. There is much truth to the saying with pride comes a great fall.

3) Have a clear moral compass. We must have a clear moral compass or else we are sure to fail from the start. If a company doesn’t have a quality control standard, they have nothing to aim for. As stated earlier, if we expect nothing, we will settle for anything. In a society where we have marginalized God and the importance of faith are we surprised with the outcome?

4) Accountability. Everyone talks about setting goals but the unflattering truth is that setting goals achieves little without a strong accountability team in place. No one, and I do mean NO ONE, achieves their God given potential without people around them pushing them and holding them accountable to their stated goals and priorities. Do you believe any professional athlete could have reached their true potential without coaches and other athletes challenging him?

5) Own up to mistakes. When we fail, we must admit to it and take full responsibility for our actions. Finally if we are truly changed, we will put accountability measures in place to make it all but impossible to do again.

In conclusion I say let’s hold our leaders accountable and expect a higher standard. At the same time though we must have forgiveness when there is reason to think someone has learned their lesson and taken responsibility for their actions. In the end let’s remember, in the same way we forgive we will be forgiven.

At the Buford Christmas Parade.

Posted Monday, December 7, 2009

This past Saturday the Josh Clark for State House campaign participated in the Buford Holiday Parade and Festival. Over 40 volunteers came out to help with the festival booth and the parade. As you’ll remember it was pretty cold on Saturday and we are very appreciative of all those who came and helped.
